Queer Rural Wales: A Showcase Celebration

01 November 2025 | Inclusive Journalism Cymru

Save the Date: An afternoon of Inclusive Journalism in Aberystwyth

Join us to celebrate the publication of Mair Jones’ creative essay commissioned as part of our ‘Understanding Our Past to Know Our Present’ project, in partnership with the Wales Broadcast Archive. In their piece responding to archive material, ‘Queer Rural Wales’, Mair gives a comprehensive account of this lesser known but important part of our history. The event will be a chance to hear LGBTQIA+ stories from Wales, explore your own writing practice, and connect with others in a welcoming space.

When?

12:00pm – 5:00pm, Saturday 1st November.

Where?

The Wales Broadcast Archive,
The National Library of Wales,
Aberystwyth,
Ceredigion,
SY23 3BU

What can I expect?

  • A live reading and Q&A showcasing Mair Jones‘ piece exploring queer rural Wales
  • A writing workshop with renowned non-fiction author Mike Parker
  • A collective queer joy poetry session with the Aberystwyth-based Marginalised Writers collective
  • A brief introduction to Inclusive Journalism Cymru and an opportunity to feed into our future plans
  • Free lunch and refreshments

Note, this event will be carried out bilingually. Though most of the sessions will be in English, we encourage anyone who wants to contribute in Welsh to do so as there will be Welsh speakers present. There will be no live translation services, we hope instead to create a more fluid, true to life environment where people can speak in both languages.

The event is free and open to everyone.
