Journalism is changing. New technologies, shifting audiences, evolving platforms and changing ways of working are reshaping what it means to build a career in the industry.

Join us for an interactive afternoon bringing together established journalists, media professionals and emerging talent to explore where journalism is heading – and how we can find our place within it.

Led by cultural journalist and Inclusive Journalism Cymru Network Weaver Sheryl Njini, the event will move away from the traditional panel format to create space for more honest conversation, knowledge exchange and connection. 

We’ll explore everything from AI and emerging technology to career pathways, sustainability, audiences and the skills journalists will need as the industry continues to evolve.

You’ll hear directly from our special guest speakers working across journalism and media innovation, contribute your own perspectives and have the opportunity to build connections with people at different stages of their careers.

Whether you’re trying to break into journalism, finding your footing in the industry or have years of experience behind you, this is a chance to meet with peers, exchange ideas and think collectively about what comes next.

Manjiri Kulkarni Carey

Manjiri is an experienced journalist who has worked across print, radio, TV and digital. Formerly BBC News’ Innovation Editor, she now works as an advisor and consultant, helping newsrooms around the world as they discover and implement AI.

Her work focuses on identifying creative solutions to journalists’ challenges and building better audience experiences. She has also been involved in recruitment and mentoring and is passionate about supporting journalists at all stages of their careers.

Maddy Dhesi

Originally from North Wales, Maddy Dhesi is a digital communications professional working in public affairs and politics. Maddy is the Co-Founder and Head of Operations at Senedd Explained, a series of media platforms aiming to bridge the gap between people and Welsh politics.

Sofia Ellen Lewis

Sofia Ellen Lewis is a journalist at ITV Wales, working across broadcast and digital on breaking news, politics, investigations and special programmes. In 2026, she became the first Cynefin Fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, researching public interest journalism in Wales and how it could better serve communities with low political participation.

Previously a freelance journalist with bylines in The Independent, VICE and Cosmopolitan, Sofia is passionate about widening access to the media industry and ensuring it better represents the audiences it serves. She also worked on the launch of A Writing Chance, a programme co-founded by Michael Sheen to break down barriers for new and aspiring writers from working-class backgrounds.
