At Inclusive Journalism Cymru, we believe that whose stories get told, and how, shapes the world we live in. Our work exists to challenge harmful narratives, centre marginalised voices, and build a media that reflects and represents all of us.
The announcement of our Cynefin Fellowship is just the latest step in this mission. But it’s part of a much bigger movement we’re leading to drive systemic change through more representative and inclusive storytelling.
In just three years we’ve :
- Published Cymru & I our book of non-fiction essays telling unheard stories of Wales and Welshness
- Partnered with QueerAF, to offer mentoring and portfolio-building opportunities for early career LGBTQIA+ journalists
- Launched the Inclusive Media Development Lab, a groundbreaking programme of support for marginalised journalists to develop the skills to run sustainable journalism businesses
- Created a member-led Recruitment Guide that’s now being used as a best practice model all over the world
- Run Understanding Our Past to Know Our Present with the Wales Broadcast Archive – offering creative commissions and showcase events to members from across Wales
- Helped shape Welsh journalism policy through Mapping Public Interest Journalism in Wales – which has informed government action to support inclusion and innovation.
Our work is making a difference. Inclusive Journalism Cymru is now recognised as a global voice for change. But systemic change doesn’t happen overnight – it takes persistence, resources and a shared commitment to act now.
